Come here when I crave for my howetown food. Try the crossing-bridge rice noodles if you are a foreigner, it's not spicy. Otherwise challenge any spicy dishes, they are equally great.Yelp doesn't support Chinese characters.. Anyways, Xiao Guo Mi Xian is not authentic, they still cook it in the big pot, if you know what I mean. T_T

This is a great spicy food place if you appreciate Hunan food! The restaurant is clean and big. Staffs are very nice and they would help you pick their specialties if you are clueless about Hunan food. My favorite dish would definitely be the Spicy fish pot (not very sure how it should be translated from Chinese), but it is the dish that has the fish completely immersed in red pepper soup. While it looks daunting, it is not that bad at all. I also find it interesting that you can pick your appetizers in a buffet style. I think you pick a combination of 2 to 3 items for a fixed charge. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner.

SHADY BUSINESS like someone previously mentioned!! Been coming to this location for years without any issues until recently. The last two times I visited, I noticed that they have been shorting me of my change!! So experience #1 I ordered spicy noodles togo cost me about 6-7$ and I gave a 20$ bill well they returned me $7 dollar which means I just paid double my meal and by the time I noticed I was already in my car and driving away. #2 went with a friend and ate in our total was 21$ we put 40$ and got back 9$ plus some change. Did they think we were dumbasses?!? So my friend goes up to tell them and the cashier asks the lady who recieved our money if we had given $40 then the lady immediately says " oh yea they did I gave them back the wrong amount" Wtf?!? And she has the nerve to admit it.... So yea last time I'll be eating at the location. Be aware people and count your change!

My family and I came here today and I had to update my previous review. I have to admit, the food is good but the customer service here is horrible. Also, they have a shady way of calculating tax so I would be on the lookout for that the next time you go.Since we were not really hungry, my family of four ordered their #1 (which I would recommend), a sautéed eel dish, and a 3-item combo appetizer dish. Everything was good until we got an eel soup dish instead of the sautéed eel dish we had ordered. We told her waitress and she took it back to the kitchen. A couple minutes later, she came back with the same eel soup we saw earlier. We told her, again, that they got our order wrong and we wanted the sautéed eel dish. What happened next was absurd and, by far, the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The waitress came back and told us that she thought we had ordered the eel soup dish and was pretty stubborn about it. She kept saying that that was what she heard and we should have checked with her prior. I'm sorry but I thought it was her responsibility to get our orders right. She then told us that they had already made the soup dish and because we did not want it, they had to make another dish. We told her, again, that she must have misheard because we clearly said that we wanted the sautéed eel dish. We eventually got our sautéed eel dish and thought that we had seen the last of that waitress until she came by again. She asked us if we still wanted the soup dish since they have already made it. We had made it clear, several times, that we did not want the eel soup and wanted the sautéed eel dish. She then asked if we wanted to order another item because we did not order enough. By then, we were definitely not pleased with how rude and disrespectful this waitress was. After that, she did not bother stopping by our table for the rest of the meal. She even ignored us when we tried to get the check.TIP: CHECK HOW MUCH THEY TAX YOU.When we got our check today, they mysteriously added a 20% tax on our order. I thought tax was supposed to be 8.75% in this area and NOT 20%. They have a SHADY way of doing business. I would check just in case because they could easily add it in without you even noticing because they just add it to the total. We just paid it off because we did not want to deal with the horrible waitress again, tipped and left. We tipped out of courtesy but she did not deserve a cent of it. The lack of customer service for the latter half as well as the extremely rude waitress definitely did not deserve any tip at all. Oh yeah, she also glared at us on the way out - completely unprofessional. I would avoid the waitress with the glasses and poofed up hair at all cost. After this horrible experience, I'm a little hesitant about coming back. Their food is good but their staff is completely unprofessional and rude.Food: 4But, -1 for rude waitress, -1 for horrible experience, -1 for OVERTAXATION.

Each time I got out of a Szechuan restaurant, my taste buds were completely numb by their spices. This restaurant was no exception.First of all, don't expect any customer services here. Our waitress just gave us the menu, got our orders, and gave us the check. Here are what we ordered:Cumin lamb - Half of dishes were chili peppers. Too spicy for my own sake.Mapo tofu - The spiciness completely numb my taste buds. Can't even taste the flavor.Szechuan water-boiled beef - If you like a bowl of chili oil, then this is the order.I probably won't come back here again for ANY of their spicy dishes, but I might try their house special noodle if I happen to come here again.

Note: This is a review for their house special noodles. It's a little bit of what they are known for, and it's not to say the rest of their food isn't good.. but I just came here specifically to try this.I have to say that I came away a fan. Was a bit skeptical at first looking at some of the pictures because it looked like a whole a lot of noodles and not much else. The interesting thing about what they do here is that they bring out everything separately and put the bowl together there for you. Think of how when you go to a pho restaurant and you get the plate of basil, lime, jalapenos, etc. Now picture all the meats (poached chicken, sliced pork, veggies, etc) at the bottom of a bowl, then they toss in a plate of noodles (really nice smooth texture to them), and then pour hot broth all over the top. I actually really like that since it keeps your broth from being boiling hot.As for taste; the noodles' texture is impeccable, the broth is like mom's best chicken noodle soup, and the meat was tasty as well. I could potentially do with a bit more meat, but that's just the meathead side of me talking. Would love to come back here and try some of their lamb dishes, but as for their noodle soup... great for a soupy kind of day!

I came back here with my nephew and niece last Wednesday after our forced march up the Chapman Trail near Mt. Baldy. We ordered the following FLAWLESS dishes:1) Cumin Lamb- not baaaaad at all. Could be the best lamb I have ever ordered at a Chinese restaurant. I loved the sautéed pieces of cilantro and garlic.2) Szechuan chicken- hacked chicken on the bone with dried chilies, fresh orange chilies, and a spice mixture that would burn Lucifer himself, but in a good way. Hard to eat but delicious. A bit sweet.3) House special noodle soup- a mild foil for all of the other spicy dishes, but flavorful and most welcome carb restoration after hiking over 8 miles. We considered another order they were so good. It had a piece of gammon, bean sprouts, chicken, green onion, and a nice chicken stock made from scratch the way god intended.4) Meat cold plate with tripe, pig face, and those sliced chicken gizzards. +++5) Vegetable cold plate with cucumbers, fava beans, and seaweed salad. +++My niece, they say, will only eat chicken mc nasty nuggets from mc shit. Well, not on my watch she won't! So her parents were very surprised when they found out she enjoyed this place and even ate seconds. Well, if you take any little kid on an five hour difficult hike, at the end, they would probably eat a lump of charcoal if that was all that was available.

Yunnan Garden was quite empty when my friends and I arrived for an early lunch today. The waiters and waitresses were just sitting /standing around the register, chatting away. I was initially hesitant, wondering about how good the food would be. It might have been a good thing though, as their parking lot is not particularly large and therefore permitted easier parking.I was quite impressed! The portions were much larger than I expected, and the side dishes were fantastic! You have to try their cold appetizers - I loved the spicy beef side dish. We ordered the #1 noodle, which was in wayy larger portions than we all expected. We had the spicy boiled beef and fish, which they noted with "3 chilis". The beef and fish was pretty good, but it was unfortunately not spicy at all.We also ordered two winter melon teas. It was very watered down, but you could still taste the winter melon flavor and not too sweet.Overall, my friends and I were satisfied and had plenty of leftovers to take home. Would definitely come back here again!

Cold appetizers galore! Right smack around the main entrance of the restaurant, there's a display case full of all the most yummy and freshest cold appetizers you can think of... and some you can't. That's why it's great to give as much of them a try with the 3 item combo appetizer dish... where you select 3 items from the display... and it's only just a little over $4! You can either bring it back to your table (if you're dining in) or ask for it to go.My fav dish at this restaurant? It's the cold chicken drenched in their "special spicy sauce" (#49, $8.95). The "special spicy sauce" is actually chili oil, peppercorn and chili flakes... which could be quite intimidating when you look at it. However, if you can get pass that, the dish itself isn't that spicy at all. In fact, there's almost a sweet taste to it. It goes perfect with rice. In fact, the cold appetizers goes perfect with rice too! I SWEAR I don't usually don't eat much rice, but I can SERIOUSLY eat 2 or 3 bowls of the rice at this place! Crazy~ I KNOW! Hahaha...Parking is available in the back lot and on the street. Credit cards are accepted.

Vibrant flavors, fresh food.At the beginning of your meal, you can head to the cold appetizer cases and pick three items. Yunnan Garden has quite a large selection of cold appetizers (close to 20 items) - two full cases, full of rectangular metal containers and more along the back rim. We got the spicy beef, cucumbers and fava beans. The beef had a nice kick and the cucumbers and beans provided that nice non-spicy balance for the rest of the meal.We got the cumin lamb, Sichuan dan dan noodles, and spicy fish head. The cumin lamb is flavorful and spicy (and a little fatty, though not too oily). The fish head is huge (and takes 25 minutes). At first blush the fish head had good flavor but the saltiness comes out the more you eat it - even with rice, it's pretty salty. I really enjoyed the dan dan noodles -- they were a nice mix of flavors and (like everything else), fresh.Service was very friendly.

All I have been searching for is a great Spicy Lamb chop place!Today I ventured over after seeing a picture of a wet style spicy lamb chop place. Apparently even though it was shared as one of Yunnan Garden's picture they don't sell it wet but instead dry like I like it.My initial thought after tasting this item was Yes!, I like it and it was as spicy as the Lao Bian restaurant that is now closed and less than a mile from this place. Though I came here a second time just a day or two later and the spices gave me heartburn. It wasn't as enjoyable the first time around but I'm gonna go back and ask for less spiciness so I can enjoy the lamb more.I guess I will have to eat here one day and try their other food items but I'm currently only fixated on Spicy lamb chops to go.

Came here 30 minutes before closing on a week day with my boyfriend. They did rush us politely though. We ordered several small dishes & the Yun Chuan Guo Chao Mian. I've never had Yun Chuan Guo Chao Mian before so I was pleasantly surprised by the light broth and deliciously al-dente noodles. It's like pho minus the blatant amount of MSG.For the small dishes, everything was just alright. The seaweed was nicely seasoned though! My absolute favorite is their liang fen. It looks like a pan of thicker, opaque, round glass noodles. They season it right there with some soy sauce & chili. Really light but flavorful. I could probably eat this all day!

Went there for the first time a few days ago. I was confused about the set up but turns out the case is just for cold food like marinated innerts and pickled vegatables items. We ordered the beef, gizzard, headcheese, garlic cucumber, seaweed, and pickled chicken feet from the cold case. Everything was okay except the headcheese in chili oil was amazing! I ate the whole plate! (For those who don't eat headcheese, I know you just all threw up in your mouth a little.)The dishes were okay. We had a spicy fried chicken dish and a noodle soup. The taste was okay but overall I wasn't that impressed. I wouldn't go back for either of the dishes...maybe just the headcheese... :)The price is great too. We ordered all those cold dishes plus the 2 dishes and drinks and the bill came to only a little over $30.

Yunnan Gardens's menu is heavy on beef, chicken, lamb, goat, and pork. It's a haven for Carnivores so leave your Vegetarian and Pescatarian friends at home to complain all by themselves. About every dish that I tried had an 7-alarm rating on the Richter scale of spicy heat. Unfortunately, I was dining with a group of diners so I couldn't tell the manager that I wanted a "mind blowing" 10 to 12-Richter scaled spicy heat instead.Among the other dishes to try at Yunnan Garden is the #31 Cubed Goat in Hot Pot and a stir fried #39 Chungking Fried Chicken Cubes with Hot Pepper is wok tossed with dried red chili flakes. This dish would be the perfect accompaniment with a cold beer and a football game. All of the menu specialties were either stews or stir frys. I also fancied the #98 Lamb with Cumin, which was out of this world. I would not have guessed that it was a lamb dish if no one told me that it was. Another one of my favorite dishes was the #49 Fat Pork Slices with Garlic (pictured above); a dish of boiled pork belly (thinly sliced like bacon), fresh garlic, and drowned in red chili sauce that would frighten any vampires back into hibernation or hex you on Valentine's Day. The spicy heat did not over power the tender pork belly, but the fresh garlic did. It was a happy marriage.

Eh, Over-rated!I love Szechuan food, so when my hubby suggested this place, I was really excited to try it out. We ordered House Special Rice Noodle Soup, Fried chicken cubes in spicy sauce (forget the exact name, but it's one of the house specialties), and Shredded pork with green peppers.First, we got the Shredded pork with green peppers. This literally came out within 3 minutes of us ordering it. It was so fast to the point where one must question the freshness of the dish (was it pre-made??). Anyway, we love this dish (it's pork stir fried with thinly cut green and red peppers in yummy sauce), so we were really excited to eat it. Meh. It was just OK... Pork was too fatty and the sauce wasn't very good. 3 stars. Chung King on San Gabriel Blvd makes it SO much better.Next, we got the Fried chicken cubes in spicy sauce (I'm not sure if sauce is the right word, it's not a saucy dish. It's basically fried chicken stir fried with a whole bunch of dried red peppers and other spices). Again, this was just OK... 2.5 stars. When we ordered it, we didn't realize we have had the exact same dish at Chung King before, but once we had a bite of it, we remembered having the same dish, a better version of it. Yunnan Garden's was in-your-face spicy, and had no other flavor. I love spicy food, but I like flavorful spicy dishes. This was just spicy and lacked complexity. I also think Chung King uses better quality chicken. At this point, we were starting to think that they have forgotten our noodle soup, but the other two dishes were so disappointing that we didn't even want to try the noodle. So we got the check and sure enough there was the noodle on it, but told the waitress we never got it. She was really nice and apologetic about it. I think the servers here understand basic English and they are nicer than some of the other places in SGV.So all in all, 3 stars. Maybe we didn't get the right dish, but with so many other choices in the area, we won't be going back.

SPICY. You have been warned. Or in the words of some of my friends, you will have fire sh*t.Though there are some non-spicy dishes, this place specializes in the spicy stuff. Some of my recommendations are the Lamb Cumin (spicy as hell, but is so good, especially coupled with some scrambled eggs), Kung Pao Chicken (starts off sweet but this thing kicks you a couple bits in), and the Tong Yuan dessert (forgot its exact name, but the thing is like sweet egg drop soup with sesame filled bobas). Even though from the outside this place looks kind of run down and dirty (but heck, which legit Chinese restaurant isn't) the food here is definitely made by and for Chinese people. The portions are all family style and enough to share. As said before, the food is really spicy and painful but you will keep going back for more as it is so good (love the pain haha). My suggestion if you are weak on the spicy foods...bring a gallon of milk, you won't regret it.
